A recipe for life
start with a full tablespoon of love from parents,
and be careful not to ever
let it spill out
from the bowl.
add in a bicycle accident,
and stir slowly as you combine the mixture
with a bunch of scars on the knees.
beat in many other childhood memories
as you prepare the dough with
one cup of rock-singer posters
a dozen platonic loves,
along with a first kiss.
blend at high-speed, adding numerous mistakes along the way,
and keep blending
until lessons learnt are as clear as the day.
get a pinch of snow-white vanilla
and combine it with two sticks of love,
APPLAUSE, APPLAUSE, APPLAUSE,
“you may now kiss the bride!”
melt four more years using the Benmari technique,
beat in the baby clothes and a car seat.
“it’s a boy, how sweet!”
just repeat what’s above for your boy,
and watch him throw his mortarboard with joy.
time to let go of the blender,
and use a cane instead.
add many squares of crossword puzzles
and of course two pairs of glasses.
slowly start letting go of
the mixture.
the cake is now
others’ to bake.
and you just made the recipe
for a long lasting journey
of bitter,
of sweet,
of bittersweet
life.
In this poem, I aimed to simply summarize life by using the phases that are mostly common for everyone.
and be careful not to ever
let it spill out
from the bowl.
add in a bicycle accident,
